Tony Cokes was born in 1956. He received a B.A. from Goddard College , Vermont , participated in the Whitney Museum Independent Study Program, and gained an M.F.A. from Virginia Commonwealth University , Richmond . In a series of videotapes and installations produced since the mid-1980s such as <Black Celebration>(1988) and <Fade to Black>(1990), Tony Cokes engages in cogent investigations of identity and opposition. His works question how race influences the construction of subjectivities (personal, cultural and historical), and how race, gender and class are perceived through what he terms the ¡°representational regimes of image and sound,¡±as perpetuated by Hollywood , the media and popular culture. He has received grants and fellowships from the Rockefeller Foundation, the Guggenheim Foundation, and etc. Cokes'video and multimedia installation works have been included in exhibitions at The Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Guggenheim Museum Soho, and The New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York and etc. Cokes currently teaches at Department of Modern Culture and Media at Brown University .
 
 

Living and working in Toronto , Mike Hoolboom is an artist working in film and video. He is also the author of two books :¡°Plague Years¡±(1998) and ¡°Fringe Film in Canada ¡±(2001). He is a founding member of the Pleasure Dome screening collective, and has worked as the artistic director of the Images Festival and the experimental film co-ordinator at Canadian Filmmakers Distribution Centre. He has won more than thirty international prizes and exhibited his work in major festivals including SeNef , Berlin , Rotterdam , Locarno and Nyon. <Tom>(2002)> and <Imitations of Life>(2003) has been shown in SeNef 2003.

 
 

Born in 1958. Graduated from Department of Philosophy at Seoul National University , he won best new actor award for <To You from Me>(1994) by Chungryong Film Award and best new director for his debut film <Out to the World>(1995) by Daejong Film Award. His other films cover <Man>(1995), <Killer Story>(1996), <La Belle>(2000) and also directed one episode of omnibus film <If You Were Me>(2004).

 
 

She learned a degree in English from Ewha University , and received a doctoral degree from the University of Paris 7 2000. Kwon made her Korean literary debut in 1997 with the story, <The Dreaming Marionette> in the magazine, La Plume; her story also appears in an eponymously titled collection published in 2002. That same year, she won the Isang Literary Prize, Korea 's highest award for literature for her short story, <Eel Stew> which was also translated into Chinese. Her

second short story collection was <Burst of Laughter> (2003) and her latest work, a novel called A Beautiful Hell, was published in early 2004 by Literature and Ideas Publishing Company. The essay, ¡°Kwon Ji-Ye's Paris, Paris, Paris,¡±was published in July 2004.
